Bankruptcy filings up in August

In August 2024, 306 bankruptcy applications were made, 23 applications more than the same month last year. In July, 225 bankruptcy applications were filed.

The full-time equivalent (FTE) employed in companies subject to bankruptcy applications in August totalled 1,146, which was 133 FTE less than in August 2023.

Most bankruptcy applications were for service-sector companies.

In “Other Services”, bankruptcy applications were filed for 94 companies, putting 431 FTE under the threat of bankruptcy. In industry, bankruptcy applications were filed for 33 companies, in construction 67, and in retail 54.

“Other Services” refers to services such as IT and communications, finance and insurance, property, professional, scientific and technical, administration and support, education, healthcare and social, as well as the arts, entertainment and leisure.

The fastest growth in bankruptcy applications was seen in the Ostrobothnia regions (apart from North Ostrobothnia), Central Finland, Päijät-Häme and Pirkanmaa. In Kymenlaakso, the number of bankruptcies has declined significantly.
