Young Researcher Entrepreneur of the Year announced

Ashish Mohite’s business reduces carbon footprints.

The KAUTE Foundation has selected Ashish Mohite as Young Researcher Entrepreneur of the Year. His company, Hyperion Robotics, reduces the carbon footprint through a 3D print-out of low-carbon concrete.

“In our time, I think it’s important to search for better, faster ways to help our planet,” Mohite said in a press release from the KAUTE Foundation.

Mohite’s company, established in 2020, focuses on reducing carbon footprints through a 3D print-out of low-carbon concrete. The company manufactures optimized structural elements such as water tanks and foundations for the needs of energy and hydraulic construction.

“Running my own business suits me. I love solving problems and a life which challenges me. As a climate technology company, we help construction firms reduce their carbon dioxide emissions,” Mohite says.

Concrete is the planet’s second most used material, accounting for 8% of emissions.

Rapid business growth

Tuomas Olkku, Executive Director of the KAUTE Foundation, says that companies based on advanced know-how generate added value around them when they succeed. He hopes that young researchers in particular will see entrepreneurship as a career option and a way of applying their research in practice.

The Young Researcher Entrepreneur of the Year was selected by a jury, whose members were Mikael Pentikäinen, CEO of Suomen Yrittäjät, Timo Saranpää, chair of AKY — Akava Entrepreneurs, Hanna Sievinen, chair of the board of Futurice, and Mikko Hänninen, winner of the 2022 Young Research Entrepreneur award and CEO of Weeefiner.

The jury found that Ashish Mohite had succeeded in creating a rapidly growing business and relationships with significant clients in a short period. As company founder and its technological director, Mohite plays a significant role in developing the business.

The jury also found the core work Hyperion Robotics noteworthy: the company’s 3D concrete printing technology reduces the need for raw materials by using industrial side streams, as well as significantly reducing the carbon footprint of concrete structures. The Hyperion team consists of a highly skilled multinational staff, and displays exemplary diversity in other ways, too.

Competing with Mohite for the title of Young Researcher Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 were Laura Koivusalo(StemSight) and Jussi Vimpari (Apex Heat). The award is worth €5,000. It will be awarded at the Science Start-up Day held by Business Finland on 5 June 2024.
