Twin sisters from Burma, May May and Min Min, dream of entrepreneurship in Finland

The Pirkanmaa design, arts and crafts association Modus produces an entrepreneurship training program for young people aged 18-25. Pirkanmaa Yrittäjät interviewed young entrepreneurs of the training program at the NYTdesign Christmas store in the Finlayson area in Tampere.

Twin sisters May May and Min Min, 20, participate in the Creative Bridge training program that begins in Spring. The spring course ends with a sales event at Tartu Design Week and a show at the Estonian National Museum in Tartu.

They both have been taking business studies at Tredu for the past three years. May May and Min Min applied to the entrepreneurship training program to learn more about entrepreneurship and to grow their networks in Finland. The training program includes 8 lectures and mentoring.

Next step: entrepreneur studies at Proakatemia

Their black and white works are done, for example, by drawing and stippling. Stippling is a drawing technique in which areas of light and shadow are created using nothing but dots.

So far, five commissioned artworks have been sold. The main sales channel is the chromatic_art Instagram page. May May is responsible for the company’s sales and Min Min focuses on the art.

Min Min has an art background of 13 years:
– What I like best about making art is that it’s quiet.

As the next step, the siblings are planning to apply to Proakatemia’s entrepreneurship studies.

Creative Bridge

Founded in Tampere in 2001, The Pirkanmaa design, arts and crafts association Modus ry is an association of designers, visual arts and crafts professionals, teachers, researchers and producers. The association’s core values are the appreciation of high-quality and sustainable craft design and the versatile use of new design methods.

Modus ry has produced an entrepreneurship training program in creative fields for young people aged 18-25. The free education program, the Estonian-Finnish cooperation project Creative Bridge, has been made in cooperation with the Center for Creative Industries in Tartu and the Baltic Institute of Finland.

Creative Bridge project is funded by the EU Central Baltic programme.

The program’s 2-month training encourages young people to act as entrepreneurs. Eight exciting training modules provide participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in business in the art and design industry. The training program culminates in a joint meeting in Tampere, where young people have the opportunity to present their products at the local Christmas market. The trainings are in English, and the preliminary topics of the modules are: business models of creative industries, brand strategy, value proposition, finding your own path, circular economy networks and their utilization, financial and production planning and digital marketing.
